A city hutong landscape painted in the open air at a moment in time. Bicycles haphazardly arranged about courtyard entrance. Frame: 27.50” x 35.75” Estimate. In the context of Chinese cultural history,Hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, traditional courtyard residences. Many neighborhoods in northern Chinese cities, especially in old Beijing, were formed by joining onesiheyuan to another to form ahutong, and then joining one hutong to another.  Each hutong
